June WIP

We've had many days of over 100 degrees here in Southern California.  There's nothing much to do outside during the day except taking care of my vegetable garden in the early morning.  I usually start at around 6 am. and stay there till it becomes too hot to do any work.  Despite the heat and unwelcome visits from raccoons, the vegetable are growing nicely, I'm happy to say.

As I started to work on the wedding gift quilt.  I juggled many ideas in my head.  Curve blocks are among them since I love curve piecing so much.  I also love the look of Crosscut block by Debbie from  A Quilter's Table.  You can find a tutorial for this technique here.  I decided to go ahead with it and made this top as a fabric for the quilt.  Each block is 12" square.

I really like the top and didn't want to cut into it, but then I cut some blocks out with a 6 1/2 inch square ruler and start putting them on the design wall.

I struggled a bit with it but there's a lot more to cut and put up.  I think I'm making progress slowly, but it's a progress. I will continue and press forward. Who knows what the final quilt will look like?

I'm linking up to the Elm Street Quilts for June finish linkup:

A New Quilt

I'm making a quilt for a wedding gift.  This is the color theme.

And I found this in the Fat Quarter Shop.

I'll add some of Kona solid into the mix.  It's going to be a wall hanging size, probably about 40" x 45".  My OMG for June is to make the quilt top as much as I can.

Thanks for visiting and have a great week.

OMG for May is finished

The OMG for May is to make 2 baby quilts for the Hands2Help project and I'm very happy to say that I'm done with them.  Here are the pictures.

I had a little problem with the dark red/blue fabric.  Even though I washed them with color catchers, the colors ran and stained the white noodles with red.  I was worried and took a break to think how I would solve the problem.  Two days later, I came up with an idea; I misted the area with water and used Q-tips dipped in diluted bleach+water to clean it up.  Then I rewashed them and the red is gone from the white noodles!  Phew...

The design is based on the pattern called 'Noodles' from Leanne Parsons at DevotedQuilter.com, (non affiliate link).  I think they came out really cute.

I also finished a purse for the Sewpowerful.org which is a global movement to keep girls in school all month and equip African women with good paying jobs.

The purse is really fun to make.  I think I'll  make a few more for them.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great sewing week!
