Hello friends:
I'm back after a long absence. There was a lot going on last month and I just couldn't bring myself to blogging. When I concentrate on something and have to make decisions, I often retreat into myself and be quiet for awhile. We need a time and place to disconnect from the world, to think, and we may discover a new path to our solution. I think we all need that. I had to make a few decisions about this quilt and one of them was that should I just quit on this and make something else.
In addition, someone who meant a lot to me passed away. She was like a mother to me. I called her my USA mom. When I first came to this country, I met this couple at church. They had 6 children; 4 boys and 2 girls. They took me in as if I was one of theirs. They were so kind to me and helped me to adjust to this new land and custom. Dad passed away two years ago and now she's gone too. The only consolation I have is that they are together again; no more being apart.
That's why you haven't heard from me for awhile. After much thoughts, I decided to come back to this quilt and start making some progress.

Then to this...
I'm quite happy with what I see right now. I can move forward to finishing the quilt top. I'm glad that I didn't give up on this project. I've gone over the hurdles that almost caused the whole thing to come to a halt. I'm getting excited about this project again. I have ideas about quilting it too. Can't wait!!
Thanks for stopping by and visiting with me.
Margo

Time away for thought is always a good thing, but I am so sorry for your loss of such a dear loved one in your life, that is so tough. I love the evolution of your quilt, and the final composition is stunning!
ReplyDeleteWhat special memories you have of your dear friend. I hope these will comfort you in the days ahead. I too like the final composition of your quilt. You nailed it!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteThanks Terry for your kind words.
DeleteI'm glad you didn't give up either, Margo. My eye was drawn to the beige "thumb" near the center of the quilt. At first it was vertical, but now it is angled and parallel to the gray "river" below. Such a subtle change, but it makes a difference. So many ways to quilt this, it will be fun to see what you decide.
ReplyDeleteIt was good to hear about your being welcomed to the US. That doesn't always happen. People who reach out to bring us into their community are special. So sorry for your loss.
Thanks Gwyned. Hahaha, you made me laugh, I just saw the big thumb too. Didn't see it like that before until you said it.
DeleteI look forward to seeing how you finish the top. Do you have plans for the quilting yet? Thanks for sharing in Sew & Tell. I'm sorry for your loss, and hope that the process of grieving and healing and learning to go forward in life without your loved one is facilitated with quilting. I know that it does bring me comfort when I need it.
ReplyDeleteOoh, I am sorry for your loss. I can so relate to sometimes needing to take a step back in order to process intense feelings and then organize how to manage them as part of your day-to-day. The funny thing about being creative is that you really do have to relax and let the ideas and process flow through you so when you are tense you block that flow. Your improv piece is great and really appeals to me as I have come to really like blue and white projects in the last few years. I look forward to seeing how it develops and finishes up going forward.
ReplyDeleteHello Margo, I am so sorry for your loss! Bless your heart. I really like the work you are doing here, you have an amazing talent. Warm greetings and best wishes from a 68 year old retired lady living in Montreal, Canada.
ReplyDeleteIt's so good to hear from you, I missed you! Sorry for your loss, there are people like that who mean a lot in life, and I'm glad that your integration was made easier by a welcoming family. I hope that your grief will be eased by practicing your quilting art. The new version of your denim project is wonderful, these subtle changes make a big difference and the whole piece looks well balance. More than a thumb, I can see an entire face ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing and linking up, hugs.
Great to have you back, Margo. I'm so sorry for your loss and pray God's comfort for you. I totally understand about having to step back at times and think and reflect before starting off in a new direction. I really like the piece you are working on! Thanks for sharing. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteSometimes things just aren't right and it takes time (and silence) to hear what we want in our heart. Love the new setting! Glad to have you back at Wednesday Wait Loss but so sorry to hear of your loss. Take care, friend.
