Things Are Better Left Alone, Or Not!

In the last post, I was set to remake one of my quilt tops called 'Time To Sew'.  I set the goal for Feb. to make 6 new blocks, I ended up making 12  blocks with scrappy fabric from my stash.  I put them up on the wall to see how I would incorporate them into the old top.  The new blocks are on the left side of the picture below.

At first, I didn't like the look of the new blocks with the old ones at all, but I persevered.  I picked up the seam ripper, hesitantly, I completely dissembled the old quilt top.  Then randomly, one by one, I put them up again on the design wall.

My dear husband walked by and he put the red fabric on the layout.  I asked him why, he shrugged his shoulders and walked away.  Then I thought 'why not'.  So this is what I have on the design wall right now after tweaking it here and there.

Now we're getting somewhere, I think.  The hour glass in red is a great reminder that time is precious.  We all have a finite number of days, hours and we shouldn't waste them.  I'll leave this new layout on the design wall until I'm happy with everything and will start piecing them together. I'll leave the quilt top at the same size as before, 60"x72", and will add some borders on to make it look good with some hanging on the sides for a queen size bed.  At least this is the plan for now.

I have a bunch of old blocks left which I will make pillow cases out of them.  I probably will make two big square decorated pillows.

Thank you so much for stopping by. Have a wonderful week!

Unforeseen Problems

I made this top in 2018, basted it in 2021, and was ready to quilt it this month until I looked at it three weeks ago.  That was when I decided to make a change to the top.  The top is 60”x72” and I want to make it for a queen size bed.  I found out that I didn't have enough of the original grey fabric to make more blocks.  The grey fabric is Kona but I don't have any record of the name so I can't order it online.   My sweet husband drove me to several fabric stores around here and couldn't find the exact same color, so I decided to make it scrappy which I'm very happy about.  I found some grey/white fabric from my stash to mix in with different shades of greys.  That was when I realized that I have undo the top to mix in the new blocks.  I can't just add a row and column to the original top.  The real work begins........

Lesson learned; for future projects, make a note of the name of the color, fabric, manufacturer, etc...

I set a goal for February to make 6 more blocks for this top.  I ended up making 11 so far.  I'm making a few more just to mix things up a bit.  I really like the scrappy look.

Thanks for stopping by.  Have a great week!!

February OMG

To start off, I want to share a piece of good news.  I submitted 2 quilts to the Mid Atlantic Quilt Festival last month, and they both got accepted.  The festival will be in Hampton, Virginia from February 24-27.

My first UFO project for this year is the quilt top I made in 2018. It’s called 'Time to Sew'.

I already had it basted and ready to do the quilting, but when I looked at it the other day, I decided to remake the top.  Right now the top is 60"x72" exactly and has no borders.  I want to remake it to fit a queen size bed.  My goal for February OMG is to make 6 more blocks for this top.

Thanks for stopping by. Margo
